  16. <p>Who leaked the prosecutors' battle plan for the trial of the
  17. L.A. cops?
  18. </p>
  19. <p>    Appealing for calm during last May's Los Angeles riots,
  20. President Bush promised that "justice will be served" in the
  21. cases of four L.A. policemen acquitted of most charges in the
  22. beating of Rodney King. Subsequently the Justice Department
  23. filed federal civil rights charges against the L.A. cops.
  24. </p>
  25. <p>    Now Justice officials admit their case has been dealt a
  26. serious blow, possibly by someone in their own ranks. A document
  27. laying out the prosecution's strategy -- including a discussion
  28. of weaknesses in the government case -- was sent to a defense
  29. lawyer.
  30. </p>
  31. <p>    The disclosure may have been an accident, but Justice has
  32. launched a criminal inquiry. Prosecutors insist their cause is
  33. not lost and continue to prepare for the trial, set for February
  34. 1993.
